Abstract

This research was conducted to investigate seed yield and germinability of 2 basic species, 8 cultivars, and 8 breeding lines. Length of flowering culm, spike length, number of seed per spike, seed yield per square meter, germination percentage after KOH treatment, germination percentage of non-treatment seed, and recovery rate after KOH treatment were evaluated from 2017 to 2018, and 2020. An experiment conducted in plots established using a sprigging method in 1.5 m×1.5 m size with 3 replications in 2010. Length of flowering culm and spike showed over 10 cm and 3 cm for high yielding selections. And the numbers of seeds per spike was over 30 ea. for those high yielding lines. Average seed yield ranged from 0.1 to 55.5 g m-2 for 3 years. The highest seed yield was found in the zoysiagrass ‘Zenith’ with 55.5 g m-2. After KOH seed scarification, Z6085 and ‘Zenith’ showed highest germination rate of 69.3% in 2018 and 92.3% in 2020, respectively. The germination percentage without KOH seed ranked CY6007 (30.7%)>‘Millock’ (25.3%)>‘Senock’ (18%)>‘Konhee’ (13.3%)>‘Semil’ (12.3%)>CY1007 (12.3%)>‘Anyang junggi’ (10%). Selecting of higher seed yielding and germinabilities lines will be useful for breeding of seeded type cultivars.
